The Butterfly that Almost Wasn't Part V

All Bella's toing and froing inside the cocoon made her very tired. She fell into a deep sleep, anxieties and the two animals below her forgotten. She drifted into a land of enchanted dreams. Bella had grown wondrous wings. She and her friend Elspeth flew through clear air gleefully executing one "loop de loop" after another. They travelled across shimmering seas and past snow covered mountains, and lush wildflower rich high meadows. The warmth of the sun filled her with happiness.
Now both Elspeth and Desdemona kept the vigil. As the Passionate Light of Summer deepened, the chrysalis rocked back and forth like a swing.
"What is going to happen and when, Elspeth?" questioned the anole.
"Bella has been dreaming and dreaming and dreaming of what she is to become - a fine butterfly."
"Ohh! Such a feat - turning from a crawling caterpillar into a flying beauty! Who could know? What colors will she have on her wings?" asked Desdemona.
"A little of this, a little of that, Desie, just like me!" replied the elfin dragon, her multi-hued scales rippling in the morning light.
The two excited friends smiled, settled down on their perch, and waited and waited and waited until. . .
"Shhh, did you hear that, Desdemona?" whispered Elspeth. (to be continued from Atlanta, Georgia, USA on Miss Martha's Patio - Earth)
