Magical Moonlight Flight Part IV

Dragon and Rider were at a loss for words before the magnificent Vesperata. The two had always admired her from afar. Now,before them, she was awe-inspiring.

"Welcome, my children," greeted the moon, blinking her eyes at the travelers. Her voice was as soothing as rain on an April night. Eliza bowed her head. Recovering her voice, she replied, "Greetings, Night Mother. We are most honored to be in your presence."

Vesperata smiled before turning to the faery. "Come closer, Child of Light," she requested. Fritha's wings whirred faster the nearer she drew to the enveloping moonlight. It shimmered around the wee sprite, twirling about her hair and skin. When she climbed onto the dragon's saddle, Eliza  glimmered, her body shining like silver.

"Now, my children, you must fly home," Vesperata instructed. "Take my light with you to protect and guide you. Share its brilliance, given freely with love and a pure heart."

Dawn was breaking over Caelumen when Eliza and Fritha arrived home. Their land was budding, greening, filled with Spring's wonder. Fritha patted Eliza's neck as she slipped off her back. "You know, El, I'm still too excited from our visit to sleep. Since we landed in The Blue Mountains, I'm off to visit Hillside Whimble, Daphne. I can see her hazelnut home from here. I'll tell her straight away about our adventure. Maybe she'll show me her newest heart staff. I've heard it's the most beautiful yet!"

The faery skipped down the nearby path. The elfin dragon watched. A halo of light surrounded her as she disappeared into the forest. "I know something she doesn't yet," Eliza thought to herself. "Our Caelumen moon, Vesperata, has gifted us with her light. When my little faery holds Daphne's new staff, the moon's glow will flow into the staff. In that moment, it will indeed become not only the most beautiful but the most magical staff ever created."

Eliza predicted the truth. When her friend, the Faery Fritha, held the Whimble staff, it glistened with a magical brightness. Now, any time Daphne carries it before her, she always "leads with her heart and lightens the world." (la fin from The Hillside - Caelumen)
