Devon, Dillon, and Delaney the Pillow Whimble Brothers
Pillow Whimbles, although tiny folk, have round bodies. These brothers are no exception. Like most Lumenesians, the three support each other to create a most serene yet serendipitous environment.
Devon is cook and kitchen gardener. His heirloom herbs are reputed throughout Lumenesia. Everyone invited to this Pillow Whimble’s cottage is intoxicated by the fine scents that greet him when opening the entrance gate. Only fresh foods will do for Devon. Basil, thyme, dill, and fennel are among his favorite herbs. They blend well with his grains. In winter, he inventively mixes produce stored in his cellars. All is always well in Devon’s world – organized and peaceful.
Dillon, the youngest brother, organizes all handiwork. As the name suggests, the Pillow Whimbles are known for their unique finely crafted pillows. Each year Dillon designs pillows in every size and shape for each season of the year. He never copies a fellow Whimble’s handiwork nor does he ever exactly repeat his own patterns.
Dillon plans well. When patterns are cut, he places thimbles, thread, scissors, fabric, beads, buttons, and snippets on his long table. The next morning, under their brother’s watchful eye, Devon and Delaney help complete the seasonal treasures.
Delaney, the oldest brother, is a shepherd. He is as much of a loner as his brothers, Devon and Dillon, are social. Every spring Delaney and his lamb Companion, Trolliver, lead an Upper Meadows herd of sheep into the foothills of The Blue Mountains. He remains there throughout the summer until early fall when the sun’s warmth diminishes and winter approaches. Over the years, Delaney has become a fine master whittler. While watching the sheep from under a tree or in a meadow, he carves one after another from fallen walnut limbs. These magical carved animals, called “Fancy Lambs,” are admired by all Lumenesians.
