Wendell and Jacob the Hillside Whimble Brothers

Wendell and Jacob the Hillside Whimble Brothers

Wendell and his older brother, Jacob, are descendants of the most revered families in all of Caelumen. For generations, one or another member of this family has been chosen by King Thaddeus to be a Lumenist. Auriana, the king’s Golden Butterfly, bestows this lifelong honor in summer on Longest Day Celebration, known also as “The Day of Pure Dreams. ”

Lumenists are not only the finest tailors in the land, but are also bound to obey the commands of the king. Responsible for listening to any Lumenesian who comes before them with a heartfelt intention, they know with unerring ability if the wish is authentic. If they deem it so, they will create a unique garment called a “Coat of Light. ” When worn, the coat will magically protect and aid its owner in manifesting his dream. However, if the desire is not pure, the Lumenists will also know and refuse the request for it would be dangerous indeed for a coat to be worn by someone whose intention is not true.

First Jacob, then his younger brother Wendell, became Lumenists. Jacob, more serious than his younger brother, is the organizer. He is a Whimble who “gets his small arms around the project. ” Wendell is “over the top” creative. He talks a “blue streak," simply not able to say enough words to explain his newest idea. Although their personalities are often opposite, they complement each other, working well in tandem.

Wendell designs a “Coat of Light” or any other sewing product. When the designs are completed, Jacob takes over. He asks Wendell to gather all that is needed for the project - fabric, lining, buttons and beads, thread and ribbon. Jacob will draw the patterns, cut them, and pin each to fabric. As Wendell cuts them, Jacob will lay them sequentially on the drafting table and then sew them into place. Wendell’s last and ever so important responsibility is to embellish any product. When completed, whether a “Coat of Light” or any other endeavor, the result is perfection, applauded throughout the land.
