The Birth of Edwin Valentino, Hare for All Seasons Part II

The next morning, Jacob and I watered the Patio Gardens. The plants have been growing as fast as Summer's Passionate Light has quickened. Edwin was eager to help, but, alas, he couldn't without clothes or hands.

I promised we would begin his costume at once. Jacob found the fabric and colors EV described the previous evening. We both laid out beads, buttons, gold thread and even dyed small wooden spools. He picked his favorite pieces, and in no time we were sewing away.

This elaborate creation took focus and many hours. Edwin was very patient and complimentary, adding an "ahh" or "how splendid" when we added any detail. While we worked on his attire, the hare busied himself designing a hat that he thought could be worn by both pirate and nobleman. We were amazed at his millinery talent.

With both hat and clothing complete, we were excited to give EV white silky angora fur, coloring, and elegant hands. Archival glue was used to place the fur. Copic markers were perfect for facial color and expression. "Master of Ceremony" hands with blush finger nails were created from a fine white clay body. The effect was stunning. Edwin was ever so pleased.

That very evening, though, he looked concerned. We found him holding a length of ribbon with a lavender-filled rose velvet heart on either end - Miss Martha's bookmark. He caressed the two hearts tentatively with his new hands and said hesitantly, "If it would be permissible, I would like a staff with these on either end. Then I will be certain to 'lead with my heart and lighten the world.'"

Many Whimbles and Companions gathered around him as he spoke, touched by our new friend's words. Jacob and I promised this Honorary Friend of the Whimbles that his wish was our command. Pillow Whimble Delaney and Orchid Whimble Twins Rudi and Sasha decided they would contribute gifts as well - a tiny elf and elfin dragon - talismen to guide Edwin on his way.

Soon we waved goodbye to EV. We hear from him often throughout the year. He loves to explore forests, hills, valleys, meadows in any weather. We all miss him very much, but know he has completed his becoming and is truly a REAL "Hare for All Seasons."

My brother, Jacob, and I would be honored if you would whitter an answer to this question: Have you ever been sad when you complete a project dear to your heart?
